Congratulations to Sgt. 1st Class Dustin L. Meyer who was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame on May 5.
The Ohio Military Hall of Fame honors Ohio veterans who received medals for valor while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. These remarkable Ohioans have all gone above and beyond the call of duty and performed heroically in specific combat actions against armed enemies of the United States of America.Dustin received this honor because he was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” Device for the extreme valor he showed during a 2009 Afghanistan tour of duty. Here’s how his bravery was described during the ceremony:
"While serving in Operation Enduring Freedom, Dustin observed soldiers from the Czech Republic come under heavy fire … with complete disregard for his own personal safety … with exceptional focus and audacity, Sgt. Meyer engaged the fighters with a service rifle and kept the Afghan National Security Forces driving toward the enemy … the brave actions of Sgt. Meyer indisputably changed the momentum of the battle and allowed the threat to be eliminated."
Currently, he's also in a Special Forces U.S. Army Reserve/Ohio National Guard unit. That’s in addition to his work as an AT&T customer services specialist I/M.
